LDAS -MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

for Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Pursuing a Post-Secondary Education


PURPOSE:

To recognize the hard work and dedication required of individuals with learning disabilities who succeed in completing their high school education and to encourage those individuals to continue their education in a post-secondary educational institution


FIELD OF STUDY:

 

Any field of study in any institution in Saskatchewan, including SIAST, other trade schools, a junior college, the University of Saskatchewan, or University of Regina.

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP:

$250.00

DURATION:
One year, awarded annually.

DEADLINE:
Completed applications as well as all supporting documents must be received by the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan postmarked no later than May 31, each year.
CONDITIONS:
Candidates must be Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Saskatchewan who have graduated from a Saskatchewan high school in the past two years, and who have a written diagnosis of a learning disability.
ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS
Any post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION The scholarship is administered by the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan (LDAS). The selection is made by a committee, appointed by the LDAS Board of Directors, who make their decisions based on the following criteria:

CRITERIA:

The applicant must complete the form and submit it along with a one page explanation of:
1. How learning disabilities have affected his or her life.
2. How he or she has learned to work with and compensate for those disabilities.
3. What he or she hopes to do in the future.
In addition, candidates must arrange to have the following documents sent to Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan:

1. Three letters of reference: one from a teacher who taught the applicant in high school and two from persons who have known the applicant for a minimum of one year. Letters from relatives will not be admissible.
2. Proof of admission or acceptance (or conditional acceptance) in the course of study proposed


OBLIGATION OF WINNER:
The scholarship winner, notified by June 30, each year, must submit to the LDAS confirmation of registration at the educational institution and in the proposed program. The recipient must provide the LDAS with their Social Insurance Number in order to be issued their T4A slip.

The scholarship winner must provide a picture and a brief biography and consent to having both appear in the LDAS newsletter.


PAYMENT OF AWARD:
Upon receipt of all required documentation, LDAS will forward the cheque directly to the recipient. As scholarships are considered income, the LDAS will issue the relevant T4A slip for income tax declaration purposes.

LDAS -“HIGH-VOLTAGE” SCHOLARSHIP

for POSTGRADUATE STUDIES IN THE FIELD

OF LEARNING DISABILITIES

PURPOSE:
To recognize the importance of specialized postgraduate training for individuals who plan to work with persons with learning disabilities.
FIELD OF STUDY:
Any field specifically related to learning disabilities. The course of studies could be any of, but is not limited to, psychology, education, career counseling, and administration.
VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
$500.00
DURATION:
One time award, for one year only.
DEADLINE:
Completed applications as well as all supporting documents must be received by the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan postmarked later than May 31, each year.
CONDITIONS:
Candidates must be Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Saskatchewan who have lived in Saskatchewan for at least two years and are registering as full-time students in a postgraduate course of studies of at least one year duration
ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS:
University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina.

1. His or her career plans.
2. The proposed course of study
3. How the proposed course of study will positively impact his or her work with persons with Learning disabilities.

2. Proof of admission or acceptance (or conditional acceptance) in the course of study proposed.
